Baby Nurses
Are also called Newborn Specialists or Maternity Nurses . They are professionally trained
and experienced nurses who specialise in newborn care. The Maternity Nurse or Baby
Nurse helps the mother from the time she leaves the hospital until she recovers, and until
the baby is in a routine. She educates and support parents, she understands the postpartum
phase and supports the mother during that phase.
The minimum for a baby nurse or maternity nurse to stay is a period of 2 weeks to
12 weeks or more, depending of the client's needs. A Baby Nurse will be on call usually
4, 5 to 6 days a week for 24 hours shift, 8-10-12 hours daytime shift or 10-12 hours nightime
shift.
A baby nurse is responsible for all aspects of newborn care along with providing support to
the new mother. She will guide the new mother to take care of her baby until she feels comfor-
table, giving advice on all aspects of the care, bottlefeeding, breastfeeding and hygiene.
Duties also include the baby's laundy and keeping the nursery clean.
The baby nurse or maternity nurse is responsible for night feedings. She will take the baby
to the mother to nurse or will feed the baby with the breastmilk that mom will express.
She will take care of the baby at night.
The baby nurse will establish a routine for the baby, feeding and sleeping patterns and baby's
hygiene.
It is advised to book for a baby nurse 3-6 months in advance.

Postpartum Doulas
They usually work during the day for 4 hours or more depending of moms' needs.
They will nurture you, assist you with the newborn, and the household chores, in
order for you to relax and enjoy the good moments with your baby. They come in your
home to assist you for you to rest and to get some sleep.
Professionally Trained, Postpartum Doulas provide emotional support to moms
during the postpartum period.
They are very experienced in breastfeeding, they teach moms how to nurse laid down
which give them the opportunity to bond with their newborn. They educate them in
all aspects of nursing and postpartum care. They provide assistance with the care of
siblings, laundry, cooking nutritious meals, shopping and running errands.

Overnight Services
La creche also provides overnight services. Postpartum doulas will come for 2, 3 nights to
support moms with breastfeeding during the first nights they leave the hospital to go home.
They will help with newborn care for few nights or more.
