Baby Nurses

Are also called Newborn Specialists or Maternity Nurses .  They are professionally trained

and experienced nurses who specialise in newborn care.  The Maternity Nurse or Baby

Nurse  helps the mother from the time she leaves the hospital until she recovers, and until

the baby is in a routine. She educates and support parents, she understands the postpartum

phase and supports the mother during that phase.

The minimum for a baby nurse or maternity nurse to stay is a period of 2 weeks to

12 weeks or more, depending of the client's needs.  A Baby Nurse will be on call usually

4, 5 to 6 days a week for 24 hours shift, 8-10-12 hours daytime shift or 10-12 hours nightime

shift.

A baby nurse is responsible for all aspects of newborn care along with providing support to

the new mother.  She will guide the new mother to take care of her baby until she feels comfor-

table, giving advice on all aspects of the care, bottlefeeding, breastfeeding and hygiene.

Duties also include the baby's laundy and keeping the nursery clean.

The baby nurse or maternity nurse is responsible for night feedings. She will take the baby

to the mother to nurse or will feed the baby with the breastmilk that mom will express.

She will take care of the baby at night.

The baby nurse will establish a routine for the baby, feeding and sleeping patterns and baby's

hygiene.

It is advised to book for a baby nurse 3-6 months in advance.
